1 to 1 running coaching
Here’s a quick overview of everything you need to know about 1 to 1 running coaching. I have a tendency to waffle on so I’ll try to keep it brief.
1 to 1 running coaching, what’s it all about?
Running coaching is hugely underrated and overlooked. It is the best way to prepare for a running event or to advance your running or improve your technique to run injury/pain free. You only have to look at the elite runners, they all have running coaches. Why would it be any different for the everyday runner?
If you want to improve in gymnastics, dance, golf, football, yoga, swimming etc. you would hire a coach. Why do we not hire running coaches? There seems to be a misconception that running is simple and we can all do it because it is the most natural form of exercise other than walking. 60-80% of runners get injured each year because of overuse injuries, running efficiency issues, wrong shoes, lack of strength and balance, mobility issues, stress and workload in everyday life, lack of nutrition to name a few issues that a running coach can pick up on.
A running coach can tailor sessions to your needs. If you do have mobility issues, running efficiency problems, lack the strength and balance to run the distances or if its your day to day work/home life stresses a running coach knows how to work with your body and lifestyle rather than against it. This will optimise your running performance and your mind and body which will ultimately leave you feeling the runners high.
A running coach can save you money in injury prevention. All those physio visits or time spent when you’re not able to run and you start to lose the habit of running which can impact your your mental and physical health can be saved by having a video analysis session with a running coach to look at foot placement, how many strides, mobility, strength and technique tweaks to optimise your running style. This will help you to keep running injury and pain free.
Runners neglect strength. Too many runners neglect strength work to improve your single leg strength and balance but also your core and upper body strength. A running coach can spot these issues during a consultation. A running coach like myself that is also an advanced personal trainer can work with you to create strength sessions that will hugely benefit how you feel within your body and how you run.
These are a few simple ways of how 1 to 1 running coaching works and how you can benefit from working with a personal running coach.
